Rejoice. After ten years we are being brought up to date. We started with our current codex in version 3 of 40K but we are still a formidable force to play against

The figure above which is in the latest GW newsletter is apparently made exclusively from parts off the new SW upgrade sprue and there are loads of new details like studded wrists and knee pads, bolters with carved runes, cuved shoulder pad inlays and loads more wolfy bits. Apparently there is also new stuff for converting the current plastic terminators - I do hope so as the only real alternative to greenstuff is the Forge World ones and at £18?? for five torsos and shoulder pads. All in all, the new sprue is supposed to be designed in the same way the Dark Anels had their upgrade sprue done, so loads of goodies
There are also some rumours around to us maybe getting a 'new' tank but nothing concrete. Suggestions are mostly around an all assault cannon loaded Landraider but others seem to think that a medium tank between a predator and Landraider is possible - sadly we may be losing the Leman Russ Exterminator but we will have to see. I hope not as I only played mine once and after all it is named after our primarch. There is also talk (pretty much confirmed but no pics yet) of a new character called Canis Wolfborn riding a giant Fenrisian Wolf that is bigger than a chaos juggernaut. He may also give an option (maybe) of having some type of wolf cavalry. Lastly on the model front, all our main characters are being retooled and Bjorn The Fell handed is making a come back - possibly with av 14 armour on the front but this may just be wishful thinking. Njal Stormcaller also gets a make over
Even though the new bits are good and a new toy maybe better my biggest concern is how the packs change. The word is we are still going to be very flexable when it comes to numbers but, as GW put it, we are going to be less codex based than before - we shall see. Another semi-quote is 'we are going to be close combat monsters' - not to sure what that means. Sw lightning claws are to be called 'Wolf Claws' in the new codex and they allow you to choose to either re-roll to hit or to wound.
Many SW players have stayed away from Longfang packs due to their cost and the compulsory 36pt leader that doesn't really get any options - word is this could change , still retaining 'Split Fire' but get 'Fearless' or 'Relentless' as well. I really want to see what they do with the scouts! They are almost standard issue in any SW army because of the OBEL rule they come with. With 5th edition all scouts get a lesser version of this by being able to come in from the side and Orks can now infiltrate from behind so it will be interesting to see how they keep that unique quality that SW scouts have always had that set them apart from the rest
I gather the Bloodclaws are going to get Furious Charge in place of their Beserk Charge and the stat line will change to WS4 BS3 to show they are as able to fight in cc as well as their brothers but keep the BS3 to reflect they are still young in the tooth.

It's nice to have confirmation that the Wolves are being updated - they are a very cool chapter.
If I had to hazard a few guesses I'd say that: - Wolf Scouts will be *super* infiltrators - like Sly Marbo perhaps
- Long Fangs will go down in points. Relentless sounds plausible too.
- The Leman Russ Exterminator will stay in the codex. It seems more sensible than making another tank on the Rhino chassis.
If the new codex is as good as the Space Marine and Imperial Guard Codices it will have been worth waiting for.

i would be surprised if they got rid of the leman russ, especially with the primarchs name being Leman Russ. as for long fangs with relentless that would be good inkeeping with the savage background

Very sad about losing the leman russ
but i am liking all the wolves.
i do have a question to the masses,
1)in the new codex it dosent mention about retinues for the heros, can your heros have wolf guard bodyguards? |

If memory serves me right, we can now take Wolf Guard as an elite choice in squads upto ten. We can still peel off one per unit to act as sergents and the rest can be 'joined' by an IC giving something similar to a retinue
Also if we take Logan Grimnar as an HQ choice, all Wolf Guard now count as troops giving the SWs the now named (badly) Loganwing army. Apparently this is very exspensive but works better than the DA Ravenwing lists - although I haven't tried it yet
